Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) in Malibu, CA
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a sophisticated alternative to acupuncture that has combined coping with stress and pain into a practical healing tool. Instead of using needles to stimulate traditional Chinese acupuncture points, it involves using a gentle tapping technique to restore balance to the body’s energy. However, like acupuncture, EFT tapping focuses on stimulating the body’s meridian points. The main difference is EFT therapy involves no needles and no pain.
This form of acupressure tapping was discovered by psychologist Roger Callahan in 1980. HoweHAfter “accidentally” curing a patient of stomach pains and her water phobia, Dr. Callahan continued to investigate his discovery. Later, a study of using EFT tapping points for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) found EFT for PTSD often resulted in long-term reductions in psychological stress.
Who Does EFT Therapy Help?
A form of psychological acupressure, EFT tapping is combined with verbalization of the identified problem to balance the energy system and relieve stress and pain in most cases. The body’s energy system, when balanced, can resume its automatic healing abilities. That means, in addition to chronic pain and physical diseases, EFT for depression, anxiety, addictions, and phobias are often effective. Emotional freedom technique practitioners can use EFT to relieve a person of negative emotions.
How It Works
EFT tapping therapy is performed in a few simple steps. First, the person identifies their specific feeling, physical issue, or fear, ranking it on a scale of 0 to 10 to identify a benchmark. The same is done at the end of treatment to monitor progress. A phrase, established to help acknowledge the issue and accept oneself despite the problem, is repeated while tapping points are stimulated.
Meridian tapping can begin at the ends of nine meridian points. Common points used are at the karate chop (side of the hand), eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, the beginning of the collarbone, and under the arm. Starting at the karate chop point, one moves up the body in ascending order, tapping each point 5-7 times (using 2-4 fingers). The setup phrase should be repeated throughout the process.
EFT tapping can dramatically relieve emotional disturbances along with many physical symptoms. It often works in minutes with commonly long-lasting results, and the side effects are almost always positive.
